Steven Tyler Has Fly Fishermen Fuming Over Feathers
June 6, 2011
Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and “American Idol” fame doesn’t rank among a fly fisherman’s favorite people these days.
Fly fishermen aren’t looking on Steven Tyler too kindly these days, because he’s partly to blame for a run on feathers.
Tyler wore feathers in his hair on “American Idol,” and now feather extensions are the hot fad in hairdressing.
The feathers most in demand are saddle feathers from a specially bred type of rooster, which is also what fly fishermen use.
Fly fishing shops are running out of feathers as hairdressers buy them out.
Whiting Farms of Colorado, which is one of the biggest producer of feathers for fishing, says it can’t keep up with current orders.
Owner Tom Whiting says he’s holding back some feathers for the fishermen, because when the fashion trend fizzles, he still has to make a living.
