The Lazys singer Leon Harrison close to reaching GoFundMe goal for his Canadian Permanent Residency

The Lazys‘ Australian frontman Leon Harrison started a GoFundMe campaign back on January 28, 2021 to obtain the necessary funds to proceed with his Canadian Permanent Residency application. As of press time today, Harrison had already  generated $5,285 towards his $7,000 goal from 84 donors.

The Lazys‘ last studio album Tropical Hazards finished at #1 on the Sleaze Roxx’s Top Ten Albums of 2018, #5 on the Sleaze Roxx Readers’ Top 20 Albums of 2018 and #2 on the Sleaze Roxx’s Top 12 Albums of the Decade (2010-2019).

The following message was posted on Harrison‘s Facebook page on February 2, 2021 (with slight edits):

“Thank you to everyone thus far who has contributed to my GoFundMe Fundraising campaign for Canadian Permanent Residency. I will be personally reaching out to each and every one of you once the target has been reached, providing all relevant information as well as updates. Your support means everything!!!!

I am really looking forward to filing my PR so I can head home to see family which I really need right now! If you’re wanting to get involved there is still time. Please click on the link, read my story and help me reach my goal of becoming a Canadian Permanent Resident. Thanks once again xx”

Harrison‘s GoFundMe campaign indicates:

“In 2014, I came to Canada to pursuit my career in music with Australian band The Lazys. It was Canada that embraced my band and as a result allowed us to tour internationally making fans all over the world.

With relentless hard work and dedication from myself, my band, our team and all our fans, The Lazys have now toured Canada, US, UK, Europe and Australia, always making new friendships where ever we perform.

In early 2020, I also started a new business called Bandwagon. We offer personalized mentorships and songwriting workshops to emerging artists. Thus far, I have worked with over 35 aspiring artists (predominantly Canadian) which has seen me develop multiple connections on a personal and professional level.

Over the course of 2016-2021, I have lived in Toronto and have made some of the greatest friends and memories that I now cherish for life. For the last few years, I have ultimately wanted to solidify my Permanent Residency here in Canada but simply haven’t been able to afford it.

I am asking for donations to help cover the costs of my legal and government application fees/ tests, so I can make becoming a Permanent Resident of Canada a reality. Becoming a PR will open up many avenues for me, currently unavailable, including health cover, rental opportunities, business opportunities, travel and immigration rights, job opportunities, and much more. It goes without saying my gratitude for the help I receive will be forever appreciated. As a reward, anyone who contributes will get their name and thanks in the next ‘Lazys‘ album as well as a personal shout out from my social media pages. If there is any extra funding that surpasses my legal and government fee’s, I will be donating this to Cam H, a Mental Health facility in Toronto. All documents and receipts will be provided as the journey progresses so there is total transparency for everyone involved.

Thank you so much for reading and becoming involved – Leon
