Tuff singer Stevie Rachelle recalls how Warrant frontman Jani Lane would not take “no” for an answer
Tuff singer and Metal Sludge principal Stevie Rachelle continues to share his story via a series of articles on Metal Sludge called the Tuff Diaries and is now on his sixth instalment and since today is seven years to the day that former Warrant singer Jani Lane passed away, it seems fitting to share a story from Rachelle about Lane.
The following is an excerpt from the Tuff Diaries #6 (with slight edit):
“…. The next time I recall running into Charlie, she was with Jani Lane (years later) at X-Poseur 54.
Jani was buying shots and insisted I drink one.
I politely declined.
Jani would not take no for an answer. So he stood there holding the shot in front of my face.
I told him, “If you can beat me arm wrestling, I will drink the shot.”
Jani took me up on that offer as Charlie, Steven Sweet and a small crowd of fans watched.
I won.
Jani demanded a rematch.
I won again.
He shakes his head and smirks at me, “Left handed?”
I won for the third time.
Jani then said, “You gotta beat Steven now.”
Everyone laughed.
I never drank the shot but a fun time was had by all. RIP Jani Lane, you were a good dude.”
