Vixen singer Janet Gardner handled the drums and bass on her debut solo album
Vixen frontwoman Janet Gardner and her husband Justin James were recently interviewed by Jay Oakley of Just A Rock And Roll Junkie and spoke about Gardner‘s debut self-titled solo album, which was released last month via Pavement Entertainment.
Gardner and JamesĀ both confirmed that only the two of them handled all the instruments on the solo album. In terms of who played the drums, James indicated “[Points] Janet. She kicked ass.” Gardner added: “I love rhythm section stuff. I really do. I think that it’s like building a house. If you make a really good groove and a good foundation then it’s much more fun when you start piling stuff on top of it. So, to me, it’s always a priority to get that solid, to lay that foundation. So, I liked doing that and it was great because he was like, “It’s all you. It’s all yours.” [Laughs] because he doesn’t really like doing that and I used to not like it either. But now, technology is so great that you don’t have to be amazing at it. You can cut and paste, you can say, “This is a great verse, let’s put that here.” It makes it so much easier to do and it makes it possible for somebody who’s not great at it to be able to make it work for your song and that’s what we needed.” James chimed in stating: “She’s being humble. She’s great at everything.”
With respect to who handled the guitar and bass, James advised: “The guitar. She actually did most of the bass work too on there. Actually, all of it.” Gardner added: “Yeah. We were always together doing this but yeah.”
