Bret Michaels’ independent album Custom Built roars onto the Billboard Top 200 charts this week at #14 –topping Poison’s last album which debuted at #17– and proving that an independent artist and underdog can succeed alongside industry favorites. Showcasing Michaels’ diversity as a singer and songwriter, the album contains tracks such as “Nothing to Lose” featuring Miley Cyrus; “Go That Far,” a club remix of the theme from Michaels’ record-breaking reality show Rock of Love; and “What I Got,” a remake of the popular Sublime song which features a new verse added by Michaels, who has been performing the song live for enthusiastic fans all summer.

In addition to his album’s debut onto the Billboard Top 200 charts, Michaels was also honored by the American Diabetes Association with its prestigious Chair’s Citation Award. The Award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of individuals, corporations, institutions or organizations that have demonstrated significant dedication to advancing the mission of the American Diabetes Association nationally or in their local markets. “We are proud of Bret’s passion and commitment to raising funds for the American Diabetes Association. His efforts this year will truly help us change the future of this deadly disease,” said Larry Hausner, CEO, American Diabetes Association. “We are also very excited to continue our relationship with Bret and, together, help Stop Diabetes.”
