W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless undergoes back surgery and deems it a “big success”

It’s been no secret that W.A.S.P. founder and frontman Blackie Lawless has struggled with back issues throughout his band’s much anticipated 40th Anniversary Tour that started in mid-2022 and which morphed into The 40th Never Stops World Tour 2023.

In mid-April 2023, Lawless revealed that he was in a lot of physical pain while performing and for the last three weeks, had been suffering from a herniated disc in his lower back. Lawless shared that his back pain was an ongoing situation stemming from when he broke his leg 10 years ago. The singer elected to keep performing live with W.A.S.P. but while sitting down.

On July 21, 2023, it was announced that Lawless needed more time to recover from his back injuries and that he would be unable to complete the European leg of the tour given that he needed to have back surgery.

Since then, W.A.S.P.‘s US leg of their 40th Anniversary Tour which was set to commence at the Fremont Theatre in San Luis Obispo, California on Friday, August 4, 2023 has also been cancelled.

The following message was posted in part on W.A.S.P.‘s Facebook page yesterday:

“I just got out of my back surgery earlier today and all is good, the surgery was a big success! The Dr. said he was very pleased and the results were great. Now to get some rest. Thank you to everyone for all the support. – Blackie Lawless
